Sustainability goals and initiatives

Blue Yonder's 2024 Supply Chain Executive Survey reveals that 44% of organisations have ramped up sustainability initiatives over the past year.

Among those investing in their supply chains, nearly half (48%) prioritised sustainability.

Serving more than 3,000 customers globally, Blue Yonder is intent on leveraging its technology to positively impact supply chain sustainability.

To this end, the organisation has outlined several ambitious goals to be achieved by 2030, including:

  • Achieving net zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions, consistent with the Paris Agreement and reducing Scope 3 emissions – encompassing upstream and downstream activities in its value chain
  • Transitioning to 100% renewable energy by powering offices with wind, solar and other renewables through a mix of onsite energy generation, direct purchases and renewable energy certificates (RECs).

Saskia van Gendt, Chief Sustainability Officer at Blue Yonder, explains: "Supply chains play a pivotal role in achieving sustainability goals.

Saskia is an environmental scientist with 17 years of experience in sustainability

"At Blue Yonder, sustainability is more than a commitment to the planet; it’s also a promise to our customers, partners and associates that we will harness technology to power the future of sustainable supply chains. We couldn’t be more excited for all that we can achieve with our customers."

Aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Blue Yonder is also advancing its sustainability agenda by aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG).

The company has prioritised four specific goals, designing its solutions to contribute meaningfully to each:

  • Goal 2: Zero Hunger – Empowering organisations to improve inventory management, reduce waste, and enhance traceability to combat hunger and ensure access to nutritious food for all.
  • Goal 3: Good Health and Wellbeing – Optimising supply networks to ensure the availability of critical medical supplies, medication and equipment, thereby supporting better health outcomes.
  • Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production – Promoting a circular economy through better inventory management, waste avoidance and improved manufacturing planning. This also involves reducing carbon and waste in product returns.
  • Goal 13: Climate Action – Enabling organisations to measure, monitor, and mitigate carbon emissions and environmental impact across their operations, from planning and transportation to warehousing and returns.

Technology as a catalyst for sustainability

Duncan isn't just CEO of Blue Yonder but also a board member for Honeywell, one of the world’s largest industrial conglomerates

Duncan Angove, CEO at Blue Yonder, emphasises: "While today’s most advanced technology is helping supply chains move faster than ever, there is a real opportunity for this technology to play a big role in sustainability.

"Many supply chains are inefficient, requiring exorbitant energy usage and producing harmful waste. Blue Yonder is seizing on this opportunity, utilising the industry’s only true end-to-end cloud platform to bring together all aspects of the supply chain to make it more efficient, robust and sustainable.

"We’re committed to supporting our customers’ sustainability goals by developing new capabilities focused on carbon reduction, traceability and waste reduction."

By placing a strong emphasis on reducing Scope 3 emissions, Blue Yonder addresses one of the most complex and impactful areas of sustainability.

Blue Yonder’s commitment to using advanced technology to measure, monitor and mitigate these emissions underscores its leadership in driving meaningful progress.

As it aligns with global frameworks like the Paris Agreement, Blue Yonder paves the way for its customers to achieve ambitious sustainability targets while building more resilient and responsible supply chains.
