XPO has formed a partnership with SOPREMA
XPO Logistics & SOPREMA Group partner to drive sustainable supply chain solutions, focusing on Scope 3 emissions reduction for a greener future

In a move highlighting the growing importance of sustainability in supply chain management, SOPREMA Group, one of the UK's fastest-growing suppliers of construction products, has chosen XPO Logistics as its preferred logistics partner. The collaboration showcases how third-party logistics providers can play a crucial role in helping companies reduce their Scope 3 emissions and achieve their sustainability goals.

Comprehensive Logistics Support

XPO Logistics, renowned for its innovative supply chain solutions, will leverage its expertise to manage the distribution needs of SOPREMA and its subsidiaries Celotex, YBS Insulation and Chesterfelt. As a holistic logistics hub for SOPREMA, XPO's advanced IT infrastructure was key in solidifying the partnership.

The systems align well with SOPREMA's goals, particularly in enhancing customer experience and supporting its commitment to slashing carbon emissions.

The partnership encompasses various transportation services, including mechanical off-loads, full truckloads, groupage shipments and pallet network deliveries. XPO will deploy a core fleet of 23 trucks and 47 trailers branded in SOPREMA's livery to handle the bulk of these operations.

To support SOPREMA's five UK sites, XPO will use a network of haulier partners and pallet network services.

Advanced technology and alternative fuels

A pivotal initiative within the partnership is the transition of XPO's fleet, which is involved in SOPREMA operations, to use hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) fuel by 2025. The fuel is a renewable substitute that significantly curtails CO2 emissions compared to traditional diesel. To complement the transition, XPO will deploy a bespoke CO2 dashboard to provide real-time data on emissions, which will help SOPREMA efficiently monitor its progress toward achieving its sustainability goals.

The focus on sustainability aligns with XPO's broader commitment to environmental responsibility. With its commitment to carbon neutrality by 2050, XPO is now pioneering various initiatives for a sustainable supply chain, pushing for decarbonisation and implementing alternative transportation and energy solutions to reduce emissions by 25% by 2030.

Operational efficiency and customer experience

By applying its 4PL expertise, XPO aims to streamline SOPREMA's material flow while maintaining cost-effectiveness and quality. The approach is crucial for SOPREMA's competitiveness in the fast-growing construction products market.

Dan Myers, XPO Logistics’ Managing Director for the UK and Ireland

Dan Myers, XPO Logistics' Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, highlights the shared vision driving the partnership:

"We are delighted to be working with a partner as efficient, capable and technically proficient as XPO Logistics. Given XPO's experience and expertise in this sector and CO2 emission reduction, we know we have the best partner to move our business forward in the coming years."

Meeting market demands for sustainable practices

As an early adopter, XPO is firmly committed to the industry's shared responsibility to make positive changes that align with ever-evolving compliance, from the historical long-haul transportation fleet to the rapidly developing last-mile delivery Network.

The partnership between XPO and SOPREMA demonstrates how companies can respond to market demands while improving operational efficiency.

The collaboration reflects XPO's enduring focus on providing bespoke supply chain solutions tailored to industry-specific needs and objectives. It solidifies XPO's reputation as a leader in efficient and environmentally friendly logistics services.

As more companies seek to reduce their environmental impact and meet sustainability targets, partnerships between XPO and SOPREMA will likely become increasingly common.

By leveraging the expertise of third-party logistics providers, businesses can not only improve their operational efficiency but make significant strides in reducing their Scope 3 emissions.
