Carbmee secures US$21m to help businesses tackle Scope 3 emissions, addressing supply chain challenges with innovative carbon management solutions

The German enterprise carbon management firm, carbmee, has secured €20m (roughly US$21m) in Series A funding, enhancing its solutions and supporting businesses in tackling Scope 3 emissions.

The firm, known for tripling its annual revenue for three consecutive years, helps international clients like Coca-Cola, Miele and Maersk measure, manage, and reduce their emissions, focusing on supply chain-related Scope 3 carbon outputs.

The funding round was led by CommerzVentures, with participation from Fly Ventures and several angel investors.

Addressing the Scope 3 challenge

In a statement, carbmee shared that the funding will drive global expansion and product innovation, enabling more businesses to address the complexities of managing Scope 3 emissions.

These emissions stem from a company’s supply chain and indirect activities, often accounting for over 80% of an organisation’s total carbon footprint.

Christian Heinrich, Co-founder and CEO at carbmee highlights: “This funding round validates the innovative work we’ve done so far, but it’s also a launching point for what comes next.

Christian knows that "Digital + Decarbonisation = Transformation".

“It’s a clear confirmation that we made the right decisions four years ago by anticipating the importance of Scope 3 emissions in manufacturing industries.”

Christian highlighted that carbmee’s platform helps businesses overcome challenges in supply chain emissions management, ensuring more accurate data and actionable insights.

“We have built a platform that not only meets the evolving needs of complex industry enterprises but also plays a critical role in the global shift toward sustainability” he adds.

Centralising emissions data for better decisions

Since its founding in 2021, carbmee developed its Environmental Intelligence System, the platform EISTM, which centralises emissions data.

Advanced analytics and AI, enable companies to efficiently measure, reduce and report on emissions, streamlining processes that often rely on disjointed systems like spreadsheets.

The funding will support new features, including tools to collect granular lifecycle assessment (LCA) data and customisable AI-driven reporting capabilities.

The platform’s customisation tool, carbmee Studio, allows users to create tailored dashboards for managing emissions at various organisational levels.

Christian explains: “This investment will allow us to show the value of our platform not only to procurement and operations teams but also to finance for integrated carbon accounting and R&D for eco-friendly product design.”

Co-founder Robin Spickers explains that carbmee’s centralised approach empowers procurement teams to choose greener suppliers, finance departments to comply with regulations like CSRD and CBAM, and R&D teams to design sustainable products.

Robin highlights: “Currently, teams in large organisations work in data silos – procurement, R&D, finance, production – and rely on manual Excel spreadsheets to calculate carbon footprints, causing data inaccuracy and ineffective processes.

Robin started carbmee over four years ago, focused on managing and decreasing carbon output

“Our product provides a centralised platform for all enterprise users to manage CO2 emissions at the corporate, product, supplier, and SKU levels, enabling CO2 data to be managed as accurately as financial data in an ERP system.”

Supporting a vital shift in industries

Investors and industry leaders are noting carbmee’s approach to decarbonising supply chains.

Paul Morgenthaler, Managing Partner at CommerzVentures, praised carbmee’s ability to simplify the complexities of Scope 3 emissions management, calling it a critical tool for industries working to reduce their environmental impact.

Paul says: “Christian and Robin have already achieved phenomenal growth since founding carbmee.

Paul has been with CommerzVentures for a decade, dedicated to tackling climate change

“They are at the forefront of a vital industrial step-change as businesses worldwide demand the knowledge and support to manage their carbon emissions.”

Carbmee has also attracted backing from prominent angel investors, including Coupa Software co-founder Noah Eisner, former Colgate-Palmolive executive Mike Corbo, and Volocopter CEO Dirk Hoke, showcasing strong confidence in its potential.

As the manufacturing and supply chain sectors face increasing regulatory and environmental pressures, carbmee’s solutions position it as a key player in enabling businesses to meet ambitious carbon reduction targets.
